The design:
Toshiba Satellite E205 measures 13.7 x 9.6 x 1.2 inches and weighs 5.2 pounds. The laptop has rounded corners and glossy finish which makes it visually attractive, yet also prone to get covered with fingerprints. It also has a diamond-like patterns on the outside and partially on the inside. Unlike other Toshiba laptops the Toshiba Satellite E205 does not have the large manufacturer logo on the back of the display, but a slightly smaller one on the hinge. The laptop has a full sized backlit keyboard making it easy to write at night.
The Toshiba Satellite E205 has three USB ports and one of them may charge some gadgets or work as an eSATA port. Moreover the laptop features the VGA and HDMI ports, memory card reader, Ethernet jack, microphone and headphone ports. Above the display is the 1.3 megapixel webcam supporting face recognition which may be very useful for logging in. The image captured with the camera is quite decent, but the microphone is of a slightly worse quality.

Performance:
The Toshiba Satellite E205 may get a bit too warm after a prolonged use and although the keyboard is not warm enough to be uncomfortable the bottom of the laptop may be annoying if you hold it on your lap. The keyboard is a bit too loud and since it it glossy it attracts fingerprints but it is quite comfortable. The trackpad is quite large and responsive and so it does its job quite well.
The display shows up to 1366×768 resolution. The image is sharp and with accurate colors. Also the sound quality and volume are good. The laptop comes with the Intel’s Wireless Display Technology allowing you to mirror the laptop image on a TV. It is a useful feature although it has some limitations. As on now it does not support gaming or videos in higher resolution than 720p. Apart from that it all works well and is easy to use.
The most basic version of the Toshiba Satellite E205 with 2.27 Core i5 processor and 4 GB of RAM scores almost 5,400 on a PCMark Vantage test. So the laptop scores above the category average and it is perfect for day do day use. When it comes to graphics performance it scores below the average and so it is not suitable for playing the latest games. If you are looking for a gaming noteboog have a look at Alienware m15x.
The laptop should work on a single battery charge for almost 5 hours.
The design:
Alienware m15x measures 14.5×10.8×1.7 inches and weighs 7.8 pounds. The laptop is made of high quality materials and it is available in three different colors. The Alienware m15x is a bit bigger and heavier than the class average, but it is probably because of its powerful hardware. The wrist rest is pleasant in touch, does not overheat and does not attract fingerprints too easily. The 15.6-inch LED display shows up to 1920×1080 resolution and great colors. The viewing angles are great both vertically and horizontally and the image is always bright and vivid. The keyboard on the Alienware m15x is full sized, with responsive and comfortable buttons. Moreover, the laptop has a set of multimedia buttons over the left side of the keyboard. The Alienware m15x is full of ports and slots. The left side of the laptop features the Kensington lock slot, USB, VGA, power connector, Ethernet as well as DisplayPort and the 8-in-1 memory card slot. The right side houses the optical drive, dual headphone jacks, Express card/54 slot

Performance:
Along with the excellent display the Alienware m15x has equally good speakers. Unfortunately the touchpad has matte surface and it is rather unpleasant so you will most probably end up using a regular mouse. The speakers have decent audio quality but as with many speakers the volume is a bit too low.
Thanks to the Intel Core i7 processor the laptop is a real monster. There is simply nothing too demanding for it. For example it can run Crysis at 1600×900 with the average of almost 30 fps. It will surely run the latest games at high settings without a glitch and most probably many of the games to come.
When the Alienware m15x is not doing anything demanding it is very quiet and you can hardly hear the fans. The laptop does not overheat (unlike a lot less powerful HP Envy 15). As with the majority of the Alien
The design:
HP Envy 15 measures 15.0 x 9.6 x 1.0 inches and weighs 5.2 pounds so it might seem a bit heavy. The laptop is made of aluminum and magnesium so it should be really durable. Its lid is covered with patterns which make it more beautiful and will surely attract glances. The keyboard in the HP Envy 15 has large and responsive buttons and what’s still rare in notebooks it has two additional rows of keys. On the left side of the regular buttons you have a columns of shortcut keys, and on the right column of keys such as Page up/down, Home and Delete. Because the touchpad is somewhat unevenly placed it in fact disturbs writing which becomes uncomfortable, or full of mistakes when you accidentally touch the touchpad. More importantly, the HP Envy 15 get a lot too warm for comfortable use especially in the ares where you rest your wrists while typing.

Performance:
The 15.6-inch in the HP Envy 15 does a really good job with its 1920 x 1080 resolution. The screen is very evenly lit, the colors are vibrant and the viewing angles are excellent. Moreover, the laptop has a built-in sensor which automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen. As the laptop has plenty of ports you will be able to connect practically anything to it, although the HP Envy 15 unfortunately lack a VGA-out connector.
The HP Envy 15 is a really strong performer. In its class the HP Envy 15 is not only better than the average laptop, but in PCMark Vantage it scores twice as many points as the class average, so it is a real beast. The laptop is capable of doing all the regular business activities, but also playing the latest games and it can even convert some videos.
However, the HP Envy 15 will run only about 2 hours on one charge which is too little to watch a good movie on a longer journey.

Acer Aspire 1410 cons:

- Rather poor graphics
- May get a bit too warm on the left side
- Intel GMA 4500MHD GPU
The design:
Acer Aspire 1410 measures 11.2 x 8.0 x 1.2 inches and weighs 3.2 pounds. The laptop is covered with glossy materials which look really good, but they also attract fingerprints so it is hard to say how long it will look so good. The laptop makes an impression of a very solid device – the battery sits firm as it should and the hinges work just fine. Although the keyboard is not full size it is still comfortable with its responsive and well placed keys. The touchpad is quite large (2.6 x 1.5 inches) and it is responsive and works really well. The right side of the Acer Aspire 1410 houses the Ethernet port, a Kensington lock, two USB ports, 5-in-1 memory card reader, and the headphone and microphone ports. The left side features the VGA ports and buttons controlling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Above the 11.6-inch screen you can see the 1.3 megapixel camera.

Performance:
The 11.6-inch display shows images in 1366 x 768 resolution so it should be more than enough. The viewing angles is top-notch and the colors are very vivid. The stereo speakers are located at the back-bottom of the Acer Aspire 1410 so when you hold it on your lap you may muffle the sound, but it is not a problem on a hard surface. The 1.3 megapixel camera works well. It has accurate colors, the image is not blurred and the light sensitivity is also fine.
When it comes to computing power the Acer Aspire 1410 scores slightly below the category average. It means that the laptop will be suitable for everyday use, such as browsing the Internet, listening to music and watching even 720p movies, but it is no good for playing games.
When you use the Acer Aspire 1410 for browsing the Net and listening to music the battery may last even over six hours.

The design:

Sony VAIO X measures 10.95 x 0.55 x 7.29 inches and weighs 1.4 pounds with the battery so it is the lightest notebook in the world (at the moment). Sony decided to use the magnesium alloy in the production and finish the lid with carbon fiber which add the the netbook’s endurance. The Sony VAIO X was designed to be small so it couldn’t house a full keyboard so the one inside the netbook is about 88% of the normal size. The keyboard is generally comfortable if you have small hands, or are used to such devices, yet the right Shift key is a bit small. The trackpad measures 2.1 x 1.6 inches and supports multitouch gestures just like Apple MacBooks.
The 11.1-inch display on the Sony VAIO X shows up to 1366 x 768 resolution which is is quite unusual for such small netbooks. The colors are crisp and the image is very vivid also at wide angles. Both the horizontal and vertical viewing angles are outstanding.
The audio quality in the Sony VAIO X is, unsurprisingly, not that good. That’s only natural as the speakers cannot be very big in such a small body. The speakers are not only too quiet, but also the overall quality is rather poor and the bass is nonexistent.
The left side of the Sony VAIO X features two USB ports and a headphone jack, whereas the right side houses the Ethernet and VGA ports. There is also the SD Card reader and the Sony Memory Stick slot.
The built-in webcam records videos in VGA resolution and is sufficient for running Skype conferences and for casual conversations.

Performance:

In performance tests the Sony VAIO X does quite well scoring above the netbook average in almost all respects. Starting up Windows 7 took less than a minute and the mixed bag of data was copied at slightly over 27 MBps.
Although the Sony VAIO X does not do very well in graphics performance test the netbook is capable of playing 720p videos smoothly.
The wireless performance of the Sony netbook is also among the average for netbooks.
The netbook does not overheat so even after prolonged and demanding use it should feel comfortable on your lap.
<script type="text/javascript"

Conclusion:

The Sony VAIO X is a really decent netbook but its price makes it a bit of a show-off. For a comparable price you may get a full size laptop, or even a MacBook.

The design:

HP Pavilion dm3 measures 32.6 cm (L) x 23.0 cm (W) x 2.48 cm (min H) / 3.18 cm (max H) and weighs 1.91 kg. The laptop comes in only one color – brushed aluminum and it is not prone to get too many fingerprints. The HP Pavilion dm3 has no dedicated multimedia controls, yet, the uppermost row of buttons on the keyboard serves this purpose quite well. The keyboard on the HP laptop is very good. It provides a nice bounce and as the keys are well placed and just the right size it is easy to write fast and without making mistakes. Unfortunately, the touchpad is not that good. It can quickly pick up smudges and fingerprints which makes using it uncomfortable. What is more, the touchpad is not responsive enough and so the cursor lags. On the bright side, the two trackpad buttons in the HP Pavilion dm3 are large and responsive.
The left side of the HP laptop features the Ethernet, VGA ports, as well as the power jack and HDMI, tho USB 2.0 and a card reader. Also, mic and headphone jack can be found there. The right side houses two more USB ports, Wi-Fi on/off button and the power switch.

Performance:

The HP Pavilion dm3 comes with a 13.3” screen displaying 1366 x 768 image. The horizontal viewing angles are great, but the vertical ones are a bit worse so you might sometimes need to tilt the display.
The stereo speakers on the HP Pavilion dm3 are loud and the sound quality is generally very good, although it gets a bit distorted then you turn it up too much.
The built-in webcam is sufficient to allow running conferences, not to mention making casual Skype calls.
The HP Pavilion dm3 is equipped with brand new Windows 7 yet in performance tests it scores in the average, or below average range. It is clearly not a machine for gaming, however, business performance is quite smooth.
The laptop works quietly, but it may get too warm on the bottom left side if you make it do some serious work.
Moreover, the netbook features a bright, high quality display and quite comfy keyboard making it almost perfect for a small mobile office.

Gateway LT2016u pros:
+ Bright, crisp screen
+ 1 GB of RAM
+ Good 3G data performance
+ Windows XP Home Edition
+ 1.60-GHz Intel Atom N270 processor
+ Stylish design
+ 160 GB / 5,400 rpm hard disc
+ Over 6 hours of battery life using Wi-Fi

Gateway LT2016u cons:
- Cramped touchpad
- Might get hot on bottom
- Expensive total cost with two-year contract

The design:

Gateway LT2016u measures 10.2 x 7.2 x 1.0 inches and weighs 3 pounds. The netbook has glossy lid so it might attract fingerprints, still id does look nice. Inside, the 10.1” display is surrounded by a shiny black bezel and only the built-in webcam is silver-rimmed. The might not be the slimmest and lightest netbook in the world but those are the features you need to sacrifice if you want to have the 6 hour battery life.
The keyboard on the Gateway LT2016u is not full sized, yet with its 89% of the regular size it is still large enough. And as the keys are responsive and tactile writing is generally comfy.
The touchpad measures 2 x 1.4 inches and so there is little space to move your fingers around. Additionally, there is only one button under the touchpad which provides good feedback, but still you won’t make a right click.
The Gateway LT2016u has the usual set of ports such as VGA, Ethernet jack, USB port mike and headphone jacks, all on the left side of the netbook. The right side houses the 6-in-1 memory card reader, two more USB ports, power jack and the Kensington lock slot.

Performance:

The Gateway LT2016u features a 10.1-inch screen displaying 1024 x 600 pixels. The image is generally very colorful and bright and although the screen is glossy it does not disturb too much.
The built-in 0.3 megapixel camera produces quite clear image and Th. Microphone also works fine, although you should not expect miracles from a 0.3 megapixel camera.
Since the Gateway LT2016u’s speakers are underside the chassis if you hold the netbook on your lap you will most probably muffle the sound, but that should improve if you hold it on a desk. The overall audio quality is quite good, although it might be a bit too quiet.
When it comes to data processing the Gateway LT2016u does quite a good job. The netbook scores 1,528 in a PCMark05 test which is a bit above the netbook average. In real life the netbook works fine. You can browse the internet with a few tabs open and listen to music at the same time so it’s just fine. The netbook rarely overheats and so working with it is a pleasure on most occasions.
Both the 3G performance and the battery performance are great as one might expect.

Asus K50 is a new portable computer aimed at businessmen, or home users with little demand for extraordinary graphics performance. The laptop features a 15” excellent display, durable and comfortable keyboard, solid performance, but also rather poor speakers.
Asus K50 pros:

Asus K50

+ Outstanding 15.6” screen
+ 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor
+ Quite good overall performance
+ 4 GB of RAM
+ Comfortable keyboard
+ Elegant design

Asus K50 cons:
- No dedicated media controls
- No HDMI or e SATA ports
- Integrated GMA X4500M GPU
- Rather poor speaker performance
<script type="text/javascript"

Design:

The Asus K50 measures 14.6 x 10.1 x 1.4 inches and weighs 5.7 pounds so it might seem quite large but as it houses 15.6-inch display, a full keyboard with numbed it is quite understandable. The laptop has a glossy lid covered in dots giving it a nice look, yet as with all glossy devices it might attract fingerprints. All the keys on the keyboard are responsive and feel comfy, however, you might be interested in the fact that above the keyboard there are no media controls. The trackpad is quite large (3 x 1.4 inch) and responsive. The mouse buttons are equally responsive, yet slightly too loud.

Performance:

The Asus K50’s 15.6” screen displays 1366 x 768 pixels with vibrant colors and sharp edges. The viewing angles are very good and the only issue is the reflective glossy surface making watching something with a source of light behind us quite undoable. The single speaker in the Asus K50 is simply too poor to make listening to music, or watching film without an external speaker comfortable.
The laptop has two USB 2.0 ports on both sides, a VGA port, an Ethernet jack, and the headphone/mic jacks and that’s all. The DVD recorder is to be found on the left side of the Asus K50 right next to two USB ports. The rest of the ports is on the right. The built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam does a good job rendering accurate colors and sharp images so it is quite sufficient for online conferences.
With its 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor and integrated GMA X4500M GPU you simply cannot expect miracles. In a performance test the Asus K50 scores slightly worse than the average in this price range. The battery in the laptop is quite good and suffices for over 3.5 hours of browsing the internet wirelessly.

Conclusion:

Although the Asus K50 is quite a good laptop for browsing the internet or playing SIMPLE games it loses compared to the competition. At the time of writing this review you can get a $100 cheaper laptop with comparable specification and better speakers, or even GPU performance.
